JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for educating the medical community on all aspects of the Hospital and its services with emphasis on the referral and admission process. Performs clinical assessments to determine appropriate patients for admissions to the Hospital.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Guest Relations (Patients, Visitors, Employees and Physicians): Observation and feedback indicate goals and objectives are being met. Demonstrate respect, friendliness and helpfulness in dealing with the public in person and/or over the telephone. Observes confidential nature of patient and/or organizational business.
Hospital/Departmental Policies and Procedures: Complies with hospital and department policies and procedures and works in accordance with the Hospital’s mission, vision and values.
Educational Development: Responsible for developing, organizing and implementing a log of educational activities in the medical community and presenting the log to the Director of Provider Relations on a weekly basis for review.
Prioritization: Patient assessments are initiated immediately and completely per policy
Quality of Work: Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, neatness, clarity and adherence to high standards of workmanship in the work performed with minimum needs for checking and correcting. Identifies potential or customer satisfaction issues; intervenes appropriately and reports to Director of Provider Relations.
Adaptability/Dependability: Adapts to changes in assignments/procedures. Responsive to varying needs and new ideas. Follows through on instructions/assignments and provides assistance to others.
Communication: Selects most effective strategy (face-to-face, group presentation, direct mail, tours, workshops, etc.) for each contact. Exchanges ideas, information and messages readily and effectively, both in oral and written form, as required by the job. Provides patient updates to physicians, payors and other referral sources.
Teamwork: Displays a positive/effective working relationship with co-workers, other departments and medical staff.
Planning and Organization: Understands work objectives, establishes priorities, anticipates and handles problems and carries out work activities in an orderly manner to meet defined standards.
Judgment/Decision-Making: Considers relevant facts, weighs alternatives and makes decisions logically in order to perform the job assignment effectively.
Attendance: Attendance is within guidelines established by the Human Resources policies and procedure.
Assessment: Performs on-site clinical assessments of patients referred to the Hospital to determine patients’ clinical needs and appropriateness of admission, using the pre-admission assessment form, and in accordance with policies and procedures.
Budgetary: Able to identify and work within departmental budgets, submits expense reports on time
Referral Development: Attends local conferences and trade shows at which company representatives may exhibit or attend to achieve the maximum return on investment. Assists in coordinating the periodic direct mail campaigns to targeted managed care customers, with the assistance of management. Participates in referral services weekly team meetings.
Recording and Tracking: Uses established reporting mechanisms and provides data and statistics as required.
Productivity: Works on a timely basis and with good quality. Effectively uses own time and time of others. Shows initiative. Contributes, develops and/or carries out new ideas or methods.
Productivity: Identifies potential growth, current volume and importance to the Hospital’s plan.
Productivity: Able to offer resolution as follows:
Communicating and issue resolution.
Answering issues in a timely manner.
Obtaining operations buy-in and resolution to the issue.
Meetings/In-services: Attends at least 10 departmental and/or staff meetings per year.
Safety: Develops an understanding of responsibilities for recognizing abuse and follows policy for making appropriate referrals/interventions.
Complies with established Safety and Patient Safety Program practices.
Safety: Participates in the Hazardous Material Program. Hazards include exposure to blood and body fluids, possible communicable diseases, sharp objects and instruments, assorted chemicals and gasses as listed in the Hazardous Materials Program Manual. Attends one (1) inservice on safety per year, to include fire, disaster and operation of patient equipment.
Complies with measures for preventing exposure to blood borne pathogens.
Performance Improvement: Develops an understanding of responsibilities for Performance Improvement activities and participates in such activities.
Adheres to all components of the Hospital Compliance Plan in performing job duties and reports any violations or suspected violations of the Plan to the Compliance Officer.
Performs other duties as assigned or delegated by the Director of Provider Relations.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION)
Graduated from an accredited school of nursing or equivalent program
Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a healthcare setting
Computer literate
Possess reliable transportation
Able to speak, read and write English
Able to work in high stress environment
