JOB SUMMARY
Organize and conduct medically prescribed physical therapy programs in the Hospital to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of a body part; help patient reach his/her maximum performance and assume a place in society while learning to live within the limits of his/her capabilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform Physical Therapy evaluation(s) as prescribed by physician and establish therapy programs for each patient, involving physical means, such as exercise, mobility training, massage, heat, water and electricity, as indicated by analysis of evaluations.
Provide care for the adult or geriatric patient, ages 18 years and over.
Give whirlpool and contrast baths and apply moist heat packs.
Apply diagnostic and prognostic muscle, nerve, joint and functional ability tests.
Delegate responsibilities and supervise activities of Physical Therapy Assistants while maintaining knowledge of the patient’s status and revise patient’s care plan as warranted.
Direct and aid patient in active and active assistive exercises, muscle reeducation, and gait and functional training, utilizing pulleys and weights, steps and inclined surfaces.
Direct patient in care and use of wheelchairs, braces, assistive devices, prosthetic and orthotic devices.
Give instruction in posture control and therapeutic exercises to be continued by the patient.
Adapt conventional physical therapy techniques to meet the needs of patients with a variety of communicative and/or physical deficits.
Perform pulsed lavage for wound care patient as directed by physician.
Submit accurate patient charges in a timely manner.
Evaluate, record and report on patient's progress for review by other members of the rehabilitative team.
Participate in weekly patient team conferences.
Document short and long-term goals within an appropriate time frame and update as needed.
Participate in discharge planning in order to establish a safe discharge environment.
Conduct or participate in training medical and nursing personnel and other workers in physical therapy techniques and objectives.
Participate in the Hazardous Material Program. Hazards include exposure to blood and body fluids, possible communicable diseases, sharp objects and instruments, assorted chemicals and gasses as listed in the Hazardous Materials Program Manual.
Comply with measures for preventing exposure to blood borne pathogens.
Adhere to all components of the Hospital Compliance Plan in performing job duties and report any violations or suspected violations of the Plan to the compliance Officer.
Demonstrate professional conduct and comply with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Adhere to hospital attendance policy as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Comply with established Safety and Patient Safety Program practices.
Responsible for recognizing abuse and following policy for making appropriate referrals / interventions.
Develop an understanding of responsibilities for participation in Performance Improvement activities and participate in such activities.
Educate / instruct patients and families in safe transfers, ambulation and appropriate therapeutic exercises.
Attend scheduled staff meetings, departmental meetings, in-services and training programs.
Actively participate in continuing education programs for self-development.
Perform other incidental and related duties, as required and/or assigned.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION):
Graduate of an accredited School of Physical Therapy approved by the Council on Medical Education of the AMA and the APTA.
Licensed to practice in the state
Ability to work in a high-stress environment
Ability to speak read and write English
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Membership in the state and national association for LPT

LPTAs and other staff members as assigned by the Rehabilitation Therapy Manager
