Lourdes Specialty Hospital - Medical Mission Trip to Guatemala

February 11, 2010
NEW JERSEY — Four employees from Lourdes Specialty Hospital of Southern N.J. recently completed a medical mission to Panajachel, Guatemala. The ten day journey was partially sponsored by Lourdes Specialty Hospital through the Rocky Vista University Medical Outreach Program and Docare International. The staff included: Patricia Bozzi, RN, Valerie McCann, Respiratory Manager, Colleen Pace, Clinical Liaison, and Beth Reeves, Rehab Manager.
The ten day program started with a two day stay in the old capitol city of Antigua, Guatemala to accommodate the change in altitude (5000 ft). Then a three hour journey with a stop at the Mayan Ruins (Iximche), ending at Lake Atitlan in Panajachel. There, the 40 volunteers split into two groups and provided basic medical care to eight villages and over 1500 people around the lake. The staff reported a life changing experience and that they would all return in a second. The only question is......"Where are we going next?"
The staff included:
Patricia Bozzi, Registered Nurse
Valerie McCann, Respiratory Manager
Colleen Pace, Clinical Liason
Beth Reeves, Rehab Manager.
